Multitasking is a new feature on the iPad introduced with IOS4.2.  The introduction of multitasking with iPhone 4 was a huge hit and a welcomed feature on the iPad.  So what does it do for you?  Multitasking enables certain updated apps to run in the background, allow you to quickly switch between multiple apps.

To activate multitasking, double tap the home button. You will notice a grey multitasking banner appear at the bottom of your screen (see below).  Flick to the left to see more apps and tap an icon to open the application.  If you flick to the right you will see the scroll lock tools.

To see what applications are running in the background flick to the left, hold your finger on the app until they jiggle, then tap the minus sign to stop the app from running in the background.

To return to normal operation touch anywhere above the multitasking bar and the bar will disappear
